Sara Wilson
Sara Wilson has 16 years of professional experience in conserving natural
lands through work with individuals, companies and landowners. Since 2001
she has collaborated with Carol Mayes to create MAYES|WILSON & ASSOCIATES, LLC.
Previously, she served The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in its Texas and Oklahoma
chapters, and most recently, was the Associate Director for TNC’s Virgin Islands
and Eastern Caribbean Program.
Sara grew up fishing and hunting with her father and enjoying parks on family
vacations. Her memory of those experiences is the inspiration behind her
commitment to protecting nature and beautiful places. One of her proudest
moments was the historic release of bison on TNC’s Tallgrass Prairie Preserve
in Oklahoma; she had recruited more than 100 volunteers for the nationally
publicized event and it laid the foundation for a highly successful volunteer
program.
Throughout her career Sara has used her communications skills to help people
from different cultures and communities achieve their conservation goals. She
enjoys getting others involved in conservation and is an expert at matching
people – both volunteers and professionals – with projects that pique their
interest and make use of their skills. She has collaborated with public and
private entities to create community conservation plans and is a knowledgeable
fundraiser. She also has created successful community outreach and communication
programs to engage people of all ages in conservation.
Originally from Texas, Sara has a B.S. in Horticultural Sciences from
Texas A&M University. Her family owns land in south and west Texas that
has sustained mineral production and cattle grazing for three generations.
MAYES|WILSON & ASSOCIATES, LLC is providing recommendations to help them manage
the flora and fauna of these properties. Sara enjoys bird watching, kayaking
and fishing. She has traveled throughout the U.S., in Central America,
Indonesia, and the Eastern Caribbean.
